The Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica) has broad, lacquered leaves in deep green-burgundy. Given a bright spot it grows upright and fast, and within a couple of years it reads as a small indoor tree.
Why plant parents love it
- Dramatic foliage: the darkest leaves of any plant we stock
- Grows tall: a floor plant within two years
- Strong air purifier: large leaf surface area
Care at a glance
- Light: Bright indirect; colour deepens with more light
- Water: Weekly; let the top inch dry between waterings
- Soil: Well-draining, slightly rich mix
- Pet safe: No — sap irritates
