A compressed cocopeat brick made from coconut husk. Drop it in water and it expands to roughly 75 litres of light, water-retentive growing medium — and unlike peat moss, harvesting it destroys no carbon-storing bogs.
Why we stock it — the peat problem
Peat moss is dug from wetlands that took millennia to form and store enormous quantities of carbon. Coir does the same job from a waste stream. Every GamlaBazaar potting product is peat-free for this reason.
How to use
- Expand: Soak the brick in 15–18 litres of water for 30 minutes
- Mix: 40% cocopeat, 40% garden soil, 20% vermicompost makes an excellent all-purpose mix
- Rinse first: Drain once before use to wash out natural salts
Contents: One 5 kg block, low-EC washed grade, in a compostable wrap.
